It is with heavy hearts, that we officially pull the plug on the 2021 Elk Valley Ultra.
Please read the below in full, for our reasons. And, please be assured that we have thought long and hard on this matter, and are as deeply saddened by this news as you may be.
WHY ARE WE CANCELLING?
OUR COMMUNITY:
Primarily, we love and respect our community and our volunteers – it’s what makes the Elk Valley Ultra so special. By holding the Elk Valley Ultra in our small mountain town, while inviting racers from far and wide, we don’t believe we have our communities best interests at heart.
OUR RACERS:
Our start list spans Western Canada and beyond. We don’t feel, that despite all the plans and policies we can put in place, we can 100% protect you. Or, pull off a race that we can be proud of.
COVID RESTRICTIONS:
With the ever-changing PHO’s, and no definitive timeline in place for the easing of restrictions, we are planning a race in the dark. Even with our hugely reduced racer numbers, there are so many hurdles and challenges in our way, making it a somewhat impossible path to follow.
STAG LEAP:
We are a Team of 2 and have weighed in on this decision for many, many hours. While 2021 started off quite hopeful, there is now increasing uncertainty and we don’t feel executing this race is a responsible thing for us to do. It is also not financially viable to move any further forward with race planning. As it stands, we can offer racers a rollover or an 80% refund – which is very generous by industry standards.
Please believe us when we say, we are highly disappointed and have worked very hard to try to make this happen. The good news is, we have an amazing route set up for 2022 and we hope you can join us when the time is right.
If you were registered in our 2021 race, you will have received an email – please follow the instructions. If you were on the wait list, you do not need to do anything.
We hope that despite another challenging year, you are staying safe, healthy and can find other soul crushing goals (akin to Stupid Traverse), to keep your spirits high. We’re all in this together, and we sure look forward to seeing you again soon.
Cheers, a very disappointed Abi + Mike.
